As is typical of Fair Foods programs, building materials recycling programs must have an earned income to offset their costs. Thus, “Seats of Consciousness” was launched. Park benches, compost boxes, and planters built by teenagers from the community and incarcerated adults at the Billerica House of Corrections are sold to individuals, community groups, and businesses.
Today, Seats of Consciousness can be found all over Greater Boston; from a Jamaican restaurant in Dorchester, to an elementary school in Brookline, to a sports bar in South Boston, to the town center of Needham. These vibrant works of "comfortable art" are changing the look and feel of our neighborhoods. The best part is, they're available for purchase now! Help reduce crime by expanding options for urban youth.
